Facebook said – take quick steps to remove the abusive words against cricketer Shami

New Delhi: Facebook on Monday said that it has taken quick steps to immediately remove derogatory comments against Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami. Shami has faced criticism on social media after the national team’s loss to Pakistan for the first time in World Cup history.

The US company, which has itself been embroiled in a controversy over its handling of hate speech in India, said it will continue to take action against ‘people who violate its Community Standards’’

A Facebook spokesperson said, ‘‘No one should ever experience abuse anywhere and we don’t want it on our platform. We immediately initiated measures to remove abusive comments regarding an Indian cricketer and we will continue to take action against those who violate our Community Standards’’
