F0 hospital admissions in Ho Chi Minh City increase

The amount of severe F0 that had to go to the Covid-19 Treatment Center, Military Hospital 175, has nearly doubled in the past 5 days, but in Covid-19 hospitals on the 1st and 2nd floors, the number of hospitalizations has not increased.

The Covid-19 treatment center, Military Hospital 175 is a unit on the 3rd floor of the Covid-19 tower, with the function of treating severe and critical F0 groups in Ho Chi Minh City. In the past 5 days, the number of patients here has continuously increased.

According to Senior Colonel, Doctor Vu Dinh An (Deputy Head of the Intensive Care Unit, cum deputy director of the center), on average, before October 29, the number of F0 hospitalized was 20 cases. From October 29 to now, hospital admissions increased markedly, to an average of 30 cases per day. The peak was on November 1, the center received 36 cases – nearly double the previous period. Meanwhile, the number of hospital discharges per day maintains 25-30 cases. Therefore, the number of F0 admissions is trending higher than the number of discharges.

This amount of F0 comes from two sources. First, are old patients transferred from disbanding field hospitals (No. 2, 5, 9), hospitals that have converted to their original functions (no longer treating Covid-19 such as Go Vap, District 1, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). 12, Hoc Mon, Hong Duc); or critically ill patients referred from lower level hospitals; only about 4-5 cases per day. The second source, most of which is F0, has just been discovered in the community, such as clusters of family, business, and company cases…, said Dr. An.

Recorded in Binh Trung Dong ward, Thu Duc city, doctor Nguyen Van Qua (head of the ward’s medical station) said that two weeks ago, there was a difference in the number of F0. As from October 18 to 26, an average of 7-26 new cases are detected per day. On October 27, the newly discovered number of F0 was only 3, then increased slightly, to 4, 6, 10 and 7 respectively in the following days. These patients are examined, risk classified, if there are underlying diseases, aggravating factors or are not eligible for isolation at home, they will be taken to concentrated isolation areas or a working Covid-19 hospital.

At a press conference to provide information on the prevention of Covid-19 on November 1, Chief of Office of the Department of Health Nguyen Thi Huynh Mai said that the number of F0 hospitalizations decreased every day, but still higher than the number of cases discharged. institute. Specifically, on October 27, there were 1,272 F0 hospitalized while 869 people were discharged; on October 28, there were 1,212 F0 hospitalized, 718 people discharged; on October 29, there were 982 F0 hospitalized, 846 people discharged; On October 31, there were 624 F0 hospitalized, 473 people discharged. Mrs. Mai also pointed out the same reason as Dr. An.

In this regard, Dr. Truong Huu Khanh (consultant of the Department of Infection – Neurology, Children’s Hospital 1) said that the number of F0 increased slightly and was hospitalized at this time.reflect reality After Ho Chi Minh City organized a large-scale vaccination against Covid-19 and reopened. “When living with Covid-19, the increased F0 number or hospitalization is not a concern, the main thing is the rate of serious illness on ventilators,” he said.

Recently, the amount of F0 admitted to the hospital has increased in some units, but it can be seen that most of the diseases are mild, just need to be monitored, no need for mechanical ventilation or oxygen. As for the situation where the number of hospitalizations is higher than that of discharges, according to Dr. Khanh, it is due to the large number of minor illnesses being discharged from the hospital, so only serious diseases need to be treated for longer, leading to a disparity in the rate.

As of November 1, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded 432,703 Covid-19 cases, announced by the Ministry of Health. Currently, 11,230 patients are being treated at hospitals, of which 255 F0 are on ventilators and 11 have ECMO interventions.

After many days of observing the actual situation, when the city returned to a new normal, Dr. An said that many people are subjective and neglectful when spilling out onto the street, crowding at entertainment venues without warning. 5K compliance, especially wearing a mask and keeping a distance. This is the reason why the number of new Covid-19 cases is still high. “We are living with floods, we will be swept away by the flood if we don’t move our legs,” said Mr. An.

In addition, for severe cases of F0, it may be due to the role of the grassroots health system when providing care and counseling for F0 at home, which has not achieved the best treatment effect. get to the hospital soon. At the same time, the self-administration and abuse of Corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory) drugs when treating Covid-19 at home by patients can lead to an outbreak of bacterial infection, infection parallel to the Covid-19 attack. -19. Since then, patients are vulnerable to critical conditions, must be transferred to the highest level to use advanced techniques such as dialysis, mechanical ventilation, ECMO…

At some Hospital downstairs On the other hand, in general, the number of newly admitted F0 patients did not increase, such as City Children’s Hospital (one of two pediatric specialized hospitals that deploys the “split hospital” model of parallel treatment for Covid-19 and other pediatric patients). common diseases) and the 3rd field hospital for the collection and treatment of Covid-19 (Thu Duc City – where patients with no symptoms or mild symptoms are collected).

Doctor Nguyen Minh Tien (Deputy Director of City Children’s Hospital) shared that during the peak of the epidemic, the Covid-19 treatment area had about 500 cases, on November 2, it decreased to 86 cases, including 7 newly hospitalized children. during the day. Most of them are children under 12 years old. The children have not been vaccinated and often get the disease from their parents, people living in the same house, in some cases, from neighbors and visitors. In particular, there are cases of children who have recovered from Covid-19 and been discharged from the hospital, but then have multi-system inflammatory syndrome, related to Covid-19, so they have to be re-hospitalized for treatment.

For the past few weeks, the hospital has received 5-10 cases daily from lower-level hospitals, or community cases sent by the district. In addition, there are about 10 new cases discovered through screening in hospital clinics. But children often have mild symptoms, so they should be isolated, treated at home, and monitored remotely.

Similarly, Doctor Tran Van Khanh (Director of Field Hospital No. 3) informed that in the past few days, the number of new hospital admissions has not increased, maintaining 20-50 cases. Meanwhile, the number of patients discharged from the hospital is increasing, sometimes only 20 patients are hospitalized but up to 100 patients are discharged. Therefore, from a scale of more than 3,000 hospital beds, so far only about 700 patients are being treated here.

“Currently, vaccine coverage is widespread, the number of cases is gradually decreasing. Moreover, patients with relatively mild symptoms, or no symptoms, if eligible, they will be isolated at home,” explained Dr. Khanh. The reason is that the hospital is gradually empty of patients.
