A symbolic threshold could be exceeded this year on the green bond market: that of 1,000 billion dollars in new issues, according to forecasts by Nordic bank SEB. Last year, the issues of these bonds financing the fight against global warming have already doubled to reach 600 billion dollars, increasing the total amount of “green bonds” in circulation to more than 1,500 billion.

“We are completely confident that the exponential growth of sustainable finance will continue this year”, emphasizes Gregor Vulturius, at SEB. The bank assumes a 53% increase in the volumes of new “green bonds”, which would thus exceed 900 billion dollars. And in its most ambitious scenario, emissions would jump 70%, beyond 1,000 billion.
