Electronic sports become the official competition at SEA Games 31

Along with Bowling, triathlon and Jujitsu, eSports will become one of the official competitions at the 31st SEA Games.

This information has just been shared at the Council meeting of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation. This also means that, there will be a total of 40 sports with more than 520 events to be held within the framework of the 31st SEA Games taking place in Vietnam at the end of next year.

Sharing more about this, Mr. Tran Duc Phan – Deputy Director General in charge of the General Department of Gymnastics and Sports said that the Vietnam Association of Electronic Sports and Entertainment (VIRESA) will preside over the organization of the game. Electronic sports at SEA Games 31.

According to experts, the SEA Games 31 is a good opportunity for Vietnam eSports to assert its position.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong – President of VIRESA, eSports has become one of the 40 sports available at the 31st SEA Games thanks to the active support from the Asian Esports Federation (AESF) as well as Sports Confederation of Southeast Asian Countries.

Through this event, it can be seen that eSports have been recognized by the society as an official and equal sport as with other traditional sports, Mr. Cuong said.

Commenting on Vietnam’s esports medal opportunities, Mr. Do Viet Hung – General Secretary of VIRESA said that we have many strong athletes and teams that have achieved high achievements in regional tournaments. and internationally. Therefore, Vietnam has full confidence in a successful SEA Games in both organization and competition achievements.

Previously, at the 30th SEA Games, the Philippines brought eSports into the medal competition with 6 subjects: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, Dota 2, Starcraft II, Tekken 7 and Hearthstone. Here, Vietnam won 3 bronze medals.

SEA Games 31 is expected to be held in Hanoi from November 21, 2021 to December 2, 2021. According to experts, this is a good opportunity for Vietnam eSports to assert its position.
