Efforts will be made to evacuate people from Mariupol, Deputy PM of Ukraine gave this statement

Russia-Ukraine War: Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk said that we will make a new effort to evacuate civilians from Mariupol at noon on Saturday. Let us tell you that Mariupol is largely a city controlled by the Russian army. “Today we will again try to evacuate women, children and the elderly,” Vereshchuk said on Telegram, calling on people to gather on the motorway near the Port City shopping center in the city. “If everything goes according to plan, we will start the evacuation around noon,” he said. Let us tell you that Ukraine has had to cancel evacuation efforts from Mariupol in recent days due to the lack of agreement from the Russian side.

‘must keep trying’
On Friday evening, Vereshchuk vowed that Ukraine would continue to try to get civilians out of the ruined city. She said on Telegram, “I understand how difficult it is for you. Many times the corridors have been broken. But you and I should try as many times as necessary, until it works.”

A weekend cease-fire between Ukraine and Russia is expected as the two countries celebrate Orthodox Easter. Russia claims it has control of Mariupol, except for the Azovstal steel plant where hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers and reportedly some civilians are hiding.

‘Nearly 100,000 people are trapped in Mariupol’
