Economy: the French toy tries to juggle the crisis

As Christmas approaches, toy manufacturing is in full swing in France. But with the containment of spring and that of November, production has fallen behind. In the Jura, large manufacturers as well as small artisans are trying to relaunch the machine, while the end of the year is crucial for sales. “We do the round back. The storm? It will pass”, breathes Stéphane Gâteau, craftsman of the toy.

If he no longer really has any activity, the fault of the closure of Christmas markets and fairs, the craftsman still wants to maintain a production rate. And, ultimately, save its revenue. All toy manufacturers fear for their future, especially since they have had to rethink their production method to apply barrier gestures. Everyone must be quick and efficient at their post. But concerns about possible late payments from the first half of 2021 cannot be ruled out.
