Dr. Filippos Mar Chrysostam, former head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church and the longest serving bishop in India, died at the age of 103. The spokesperson of the church gave this information. He told that Mara Chrysostam was discharged from the hospital in Thiruvalla on Tuesday. He was ill for a long time. After this, he breathed his last at around 1.15 am in a private hospital in Kumbanad late at night.
Mara Chrysostam, who had a human outlook, was awarded the Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018. He helped the lifelong poor and the destitute and had prepared many plans for their good future. Mar Chrysostam was born on 27 April 1918 in Karthikappally. He got inspiration from his father with a sense of service. He received his graduation from Union Christian (UC) College, Alvae. In the year 1944, he was made the ‘Deacon of Church’. 9 years later, in 1953, he was made a bishop. He was a bishop for 68 years.

Chrysostom was known for his simple nature
Mara Chrysostam was also known for his simple nature. He was also known as a true guide. In 1999, he became the Metropolitan of Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. People used to listen to his speeches closely and follow them. His speeches were brought to the public through the book. Many books have been published on his speeches.
