‘Do not vaccinate against Covid-19 for ages outside the guidelines’

Faced with the fact that some vaccination facilities have given Covid-19 vaccines to children under 18 years of age, the Ministry of Health requires that “no vaccinations for ages outside the guidelines”.

In an express dispatch dated September 16 to the Departments of Health of the provinces and cities, the Ministry of Health said that it had recently received information about a number of vaccination facilities providing Covid-19 vaccine for children under 18 years of age and combination of 2 vaccines not according to the guidelines of the Ministry. This situation “may affect the consistency in the direction, administration and implementation of Vietnam’s vaccination strategy”.

The Ministry of Health proposes vaccination facilities to organize vaccination for all cases aged 18 and over according to current regulations. “Do not vaccinate for ages outside the guidance of the Ministry of Health, in case of adjusting the age for vaccination against Covid-19, the Ministry will provide the following instructions,” the official letter stated.

On September 6, the Ministry of Health decided not to vaccinate students. The reason is that the number of Covid-19 vaccines supplied to Vietnam is still very limited, giving priority to injecting people aged 18 and over, when more will be injected for students.

The Ministry of Health also requires vaccination facilities to use a combination of 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine according to instructions. If there are other ways to combine vaccines, the Ministry of Health will guide later.

Currently, in the event of force majeure when the supply of the injected Covid-19 vaccine is not enough for the second injection, the Ministry of Health allows another vaccine to be used for the second injection. Specifically: The first injection is the vaccine. AstraZeneca can be injected with the second dose with the Pfizer vaccine or the Moderna vaccine; The 1st dose with Moderna vaccine can be given the 2nd dose with Pfizer vaccine and vice versa.

Localities are required to further speed up the vaccination schedule, strictly comply with the regulations in vaccination, if violations will be suspended or suspended and handled.

According to data from the National Immunization Portal, by noon of September 16, Vietnam had completed 32,375,467 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. To date, Vietnam has received more than 38 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines of different types, of which the most is the AstraZeneca vaccine.
