‘Deltakron’ stirred up in Cyprus
According to Leondios Kostrikis, Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus and Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Virology, a strain of Kovid-19 has been found in Cyprus that connects Delta and Omicron. Professor Leondios Kostrikis said that at present Omicron and Delta are co-infections. A new strain has been made from the combination of both the variants. 25 cases of ‘Deltakrone’ found
Leondios Kostrikis, Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus and his team have identified 25 such cases. Statistical analysis shows that patients admitted to hospitals due to Kovid-19 have a higher infection of this strain than patients who are not hospitalized. Researchers have sent results in 25 Deltachron cases to the international database GISAID, which tracks changes in the virus. At present, not much is known about the new strain, how contagious and lethal it is.
