The Ministries of National Education and Health presented on Tuesday July 12 to the teachers’ unions the new framework of the health protocol against Covid-19 applicable to schools from the start of the school year, providing in particular for a period of 10 days to allow teams education to adapt to different scenarios, according to the unions.
For the start of the 2022 school year, the ministry plans “a graduated health framework based on a base of recommendations (equivalent to a normal situation) and three levels of measures, which can be activated according to the context”explained to AFP Marie-Hélène Piquemal, national vice-president of Snalc.
Three vigilance thresholds
According to the unions, “Level 1 is equivalent to moderate vigilance, reminder and encouragement of barrier gestures, limitation of large groupings. Level 2 to increased vigilance, reinforcement of barrier gestures, adaptation of practical methods in physical education and sports (EPS). Level 3 is equivalent to a very unfavorable development, with a doctrine of reception in high school and strengthening of restrictive measures (limited physical and sports activities) “.
The level of protocol that will frame the return to school in September will not be decided until the end of August, a few days before the return of the 12 million students to classes. The determination of the protocol level “is based on the National Defense and Security Council (CDSN), on the proposal of the health authorities and the Ministry of Education. This decision will also be based on qualitative (nature of the variant, etc.) and quantitative (hospital situation) analysis”according to Marie-Hélène Piquemal.
No specific rules for the mask
In addition, the protocol provides “a period of 10 days for the implementation of the transition from one level to another, which is new”underlines Sophie Vénétitay, general secretary of Snes-FSU, the first primary school union. “It will allow the teams to have more time to adapt on the pitch. It will be much more effective than the hasty announcements made this year”.
Regarding the wearing of a mask, the protocol provides “an alignment of the school with the general population. There is no specific rule in the school environment, no more specific school testing policy, nor specific contact tracing system in the school environment., according to Sophie Vénétitay. Local authorities and parent-teacher federations must also be consulted on this protocol on Wednesday.
