Chris Pine, future hero of Dungeons and Dragons in the cinema?

The actor is in talks to become the figurehead of this new franchise, adapted from the role-playing game and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

The first dice are rolled. Actor Chris Pine is in the process of negotiating a contract to star in the film, Deadline says Dungeons & Dragons. Based on the popular role-playing game, this new franchise produced by Hasbro, eOne and Paramount is starting to build a great team. Indeed, behind this project, the little hands of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are already at work.

The duo have already proven themselves by directing the hit comedy Game Night and scripting Spider-Man: Homecoming. In 2019, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley announced they wanted to take a subversive approach to role-playing while featuring a range of characters. With Chris Pine, production has therefore found its head if a contract were to materialize. Filming is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2021 in Belfast.

Dungeons and Dragons has so far never succeeded in imposing its universe on the cinema. In 2000, a feature film starring Jeremy Irons was released but was poorly received by critics. This will not prevent making two sequels, in 2005 and 2012. With this new franchise, Hasbro hopes to restore the image of one of the most popular role-playing games but above all capitalize on the new prosperity of role-playing games.

As for Chris Pine, the actor will soon appear in Wonder Woman 1984 alongside Gal Gadot and Pedro Pascal. He will also be showing at Don’t Worry Darling, a feature film directed by Olivia Wilde and expected in 2021. Finally, its future in the Star Trek universe is not yet defined. The latest news is that Quentin Tarantino has been chosen by Starfleet to direct a fourth film.
