Pakistan said on Thursday, a day after launching its anti-Kovid-19 vaccination campaign, that China’s Sinoform vaccine is not effective for people over 60 years of age. China had donated 5 lakh Sinopharm vaccines to Pakistan which were taken on an aircraft from Pakistan on Monday.
Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister’s Health Affairs, told the media that after considering preliminary analysis of the data, the expert committee of Pakistan suggested that the vaccine should be applied only to people in the age group of 18 to 60 years. He said, “The committee has not authorized Sinopharm vaccine for people above 60 years of age at this stage.”
Significantly, China had given conditional approval to the corona virus vaccine developed by the state-owned company Sinopharm. Sinopharm had earlier said that its vaccine has been found to be 79.3 percent effective in preventing infection, according to the results of the last and third stages of the test. Chinese officials said that ‘Sinopharm’ results are 50 per cent better than the World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
