Anita Anand Canada Defense Minister: Indian-Canadian leader Anita Anand has been appointed as the country’s new Defense Minister on Tuesday. A cabinet reshuffle was carried out by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in which Anand was made the Defense Minister. Trudeau’s Liberal Party, which came to power more than a month ago, is being discussed to make changes in the defense sector.
Fifty-four-year-old Anita Anand will succeed Indian-origin Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan, who has been criticized for not properly handling cases of sexual abuse in the army. According to a news published in the National Post newspaper, Sajjan has been made the Minister of International Development Agency. Here, Harjit Sajjan has been made the Minister of International Affairs. The number of Indian-Canadian women ministers in the Justin Trudeau cabinet has now increased to three. Two Indian-Canadian women are among the six women ministers in the new Trudeau cabinet.
Who is Anita Anand?
Canada’s new Defense Minister Anita Anand was born in Nova Scotia to Indian-origin parents. His parents were associated with the medical field. Anit Anand’s father Bajik from Punjab hails from Tamil Nadu. Prior to Anita, former Canadian PM Kim Campbell became the female defense minister there and in 1993 held the portfolio of the Ministry of Defense for only six months.
