Breathing exercises to help pregnant women strengthen their breathing


Practicing breathing properly helps pregnant women have a healthy respiratory system, reducing the risk of getting worse if they are unfortunately infected with Covid-19.

Doctor Calvin Q Trinh, Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital (Hospital 1A), said that breathing exercises are very important for pregnant women, because the large fetus obstructs the respiratory system, the oxygen for both mother and fetus.

According to Doctor Nguyen Ba My Nhi, Director of the Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, pregnant women have a higher risk of severe illness from Covid-19 than non-pregnant women. Many cases of F0 pregnant women fall into respiratory failure and require mechanical ventilation. Pregnant women with Covid-19 are at higher risk of preterm delivery and may experience other adverse pregnancy complications.

Pregnant women are always advised to avoid the risk of infection-related diseases and viral infections. For example, rubella infection, influenza virus infection, especially during the first 6-8 weeks of pregnancy often experience some serious effects on the fetus. This is the period of embryonic differentiation, creating the vital organs of a baby after birth.

Pediatricians advise pregnant women to practice breathing, making it easier to receive oxygen and more comfortable when the growing fetus presses on the respiratory tract. In pregnant women, the thoracic volume is somewhat narrowed because the fetus presses on the diaphragm, breathing exercises help open the chest, expand the chest for easier gas exchange, less residual gas in the bottom of the lungs. .

“For pregnant women, the mother must breathe the best to bring the best oxygen to the baby,” Dr. Nhi analyzed. Practicing breathing properly also helps reduce uncomfortable symptoms in the respiratory tract, especially when infected with a virus.

Besides exercising to keep the airways healthy and prevent Covid-19, pregnant women should adhere to 5K, wear masks, keep a safe distance of at least 2m from people around, do not gather in crowds, disinfect regularly. Exercise regularly and eat a nutritious diet. Drink more fruit juices with full and high vitamin content such as vitamins C, A, D, E, K – vitamins that contribute to good immunity. Moderate activities, entertainment, sleep on time.
