Boy almost died from drowning in swimming pool

Doctor Do Kiem Thang – Pediatrics Department of Bai Chay Hospital, on June 24, said that the patient was in Hanoi, traveling with his family. Test results showed that children with acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, electrolyte disturbances, … had a severe prognosis and a high risk of death. Doctors carried out a series of emergency measures, sedation, mechanical ventilation, antibiotics, electrolyte balance and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, increased brain cell recovery, and avoided neurological sequelae.

Do not allow children to swim in the sea during bad weather days such as rain, storm, cold weather or early morning and night. Choosing a safe bathing spot, with management, supervision, and timely rescue; do not bathe at spontaneous beaches.

Actively let children learn swimming skills and deal with dangerous situations that may be encountered when in contact with water. Parents also need to learn and equip basic first aid skills for drowning people.

Absolutely do not put the young person upside down and then run. When encountering a drowning person with cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest, you should give first aid on the spot with cardiac compression and rescue breathing.
