Yemen’s communications minister Najib Al Avag, boarding a government plane, told the Associated Press (AP) that he heard the sound of two blasts and thought it was a drone attack.
Yemen’s Prime Minister Mayan Abdul Malik Saeed and others were immediately evacuated from the airport to Mashik Palace in the city. “It would have been destructive if the plane had been bombed,” he said. The Adan Health Office’s deputy chief Mohammad Al Rowbid told the AP that at least 16 people were killed and 60 others were injured in the blast.
Photos shared on the social media from the scene showed debris and broken glass lying around the airport building and at least two bodies lying there, one of which was burnt.
