Oranges contain many vitamins and nutrients that help increase resistance and immunity for F0, according to BSCK II Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, Department of Aging, Central Hospital of Traditional Medicine.
Orange is one of the familiar fruits to the people. According to modern medicine, oranges have ingredients such as vitamin C, calcium, amino acids, potassium, phosphorus… that help strengthen the resistance and immune system for people with Covid-19.
Orange is not only popularly used in Vietnam but also around the world. Orange juice is a drink for everyone, especially sick people, just getting up. Many studies show that oranges contain vitamin C, which has antioxidant effects, helping to improve immune function. Orange juice also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can reduce levels of specific inflammatory markers associated with chronic disease.
According to traditional medicine, orange is slightly spicy, sweet, neutral, has the effect of clearing heat, detoxifying, laxative, eliminating cough, generating new cells, increasing antibodies and supporting metabolism in the body. With the dental F0 body, it often loses its smell and is pale in the mouth, and oranges have the effect of regulating the taste and the spleen (improving digestive problems such as the stomach).
In addition, oranges have good ingredients for patients with atherosclerosis, increase good cholesterol (HDL) in obese people, stimulate the digestive system, and improve absorption in children. Orange juice has also been shown to increase HDL levels in people with high levels which can improve heart health.
F0 with diabetes can still use sweet oranges or slightly sour oranges depending on their preferences, according to Dr. Thu Hang. To reduce acidity, patients add sugar specifically for people with diabetes. For F0s experiencing stomach irritation, orange juice should be used after a full meal for better absorption of the ingredients.
In case the patient has a severe stomach, it is possible to switch from oranges to tangerines with equivalent nutritional content. “Mandarin juice also has many health benefits of F0, in which, it is prominently nourishing the lungs,” said Dr. Hang.
Doctor Hang also said that the white pulp (after the outer skin) of some oranges such as Ha Giang oranges has the effect of improving symptoms of sore throat, supporting expectoration. People with stomach irritation should eat orange pulp with the pulp to reduce stomach irritation. Patients can steam orange pulp with a little honey and kumquat juice for easy eating if they are not used to it.
“Oranges have so many benefits, so I often encourage patients with Covid-19 to add orange juice in their daily menu,” shared doctor Nguyen Thi Thu Hang.
