Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina gifted one metric ton mangoes to PM Modi

Sheikh Hasina Mango Diplomacy: Continuing the “Mango-Hilsa Diplomacy”, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday sent a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. MT “Amrapali” mangoes are sent. According to a statement issued by the Bangladesh High Commission here, Hasina has sent this unique gift to the President and the Prime Minister through diplomatic channels. Prime Minister Hasina had also sent mangoes as gifts to Kovind, Modi and the chief ministers of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam last year.

Continuing the previous tradition, Prime Minister Hasina has sent one metric ton of “Amrapali” mangoes as a gift to President Kovind and Prime Minister Modi, the High Commission statement said. On the other hand, if we talk about last year, in July, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had sent 2600 kg of mangoes as a gift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. These mangoes were of Haribhanga variety of Rangpur district, these mangoes were sent to India from Benapal check post.

India has had ‘mango diplomacy’ with neighboring countries
In the year 2020, Bangladesh exported Hilsa fish to its traders on the occasion of Durga Puja. Let us tell you that Bangladesh had taken special permission to send 1,500 tonnes of Hilsa fish to India. This fish is very much liked by the people on both sides of the border. Sending mangoes between India and Pakistan has been a common practice. Former Pakistan dictators Zia-ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf are among the leaders of Pakistan who sent mangoes as gifts to India.
