Baccalaureate 2021: high school students fixed “by the end of January” according to Jean-Michel Blanquer

The final year students will soon be fixed on the conditions under which they will take their baccalaureate this year. The Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, indicated on Tuesday January 19 that a decision on the baccalaureate, involving a maintenance, postponement or replacement of the first tests by continuous assessment scheduled for March, would be taken “By the end of January”.

“My objective is to maintain as much as possible the schedules envisaged”, underlined the minister on France info. The first specialty tests scheduled for the moment in March count for a third of the final mark.

Breaking of equality between students

But all the unions are calling for their removal, on the grounds that two-thirds of high schools have set up hybrid education since November in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, which creates breaks in equality between students. “I asked that the terminal come back as much as possible in the establishments” back to school in January, recalled Jean-Michel Blanquer. “I want a 2021 baccalaureate that has its full strength”, he also insisted.

Like last year, due to the health situation, the organization of the baccalaureate could however be turned upside down.

“The decision will be nourished, the students must continue to work; my goal is for it not to be a blank year ”, insisted the Minister of Education, ” very attentive to the subject “. “Even if we were to move towards continuous control, we must have serious milestones to nourish this note”, he added.

Thanks to an order recently published in the Official Journal, the government can adapt the terms of the 2021 baccalaureate and other exams according to the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic, up to two weeks before the start of the tests.
