The director once again lamented a “unfortunate political recovery” ahead of the security meeting organized on Wednesday with several presidential candidates.
An advertisement which Cédric Jimenez would have done well. The French director and producer was moved on Monday by the upcoming broadcast of his film North ferry, on February 2, at the opening of the evening debate organized by the Alliance Police nationale union, in the presence of several candidates for the presidential election. Refusing to react to our colleagues from the HuffPost , “so as not to feed” a “unfortunate political recovery” about this evening, Cédric Jimenez still clarified: “That doesn’t mean I endorse her. On the contrary”.
The point of view is not shared by the police union Alliance, which is organizing this week, at the Club de l’Etoile in Paris, a meeting between a hundred police forces and several presidential candidates in order to discuss the topic of security. Valérie Pécresse (LR), Eric Zemmour (Reconquest) and Marine Le Pen (RN) responded to the union’s invitation. Not yet officially declared as a candidate for re-election, Emmanuel Macron will be represented by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin. According to Alliance press releases, North ferry “recounts aspects of the daily life of police officers in the northern districts of Marseille.”
“A film remains a film, it is a fiction”
According to the HuffPost, Cédric Jimenez would not have been asked or even informed by the Alliance union of the upcoming screening of his latest film during the political meeting. The idea came from “the only initiative” of the union, specifies the director anxious to stay away from the event. Presented as a “great oral” of the candidates on security, the meeting had difficulty finding a suitable place to organize the event. “No one wants to rent us a roomdeplored the general secretary of the Alliance union, Fabien Vanhemelryck, in early January. We learn that the chosen theme disturbs. Too political, too controversial… We were even told that it posed a security problem.
The spread of North ferry at the opening of the “grand oral” organized by Alliance has precedents. Last November, already, Cédric Jimenez had regretted in the columns of the Parisian political recovery “deplorable” and suffered, in particular following the glowing comments from Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour. presidential candidates who “distort the subject of the film” and “make lamentable shortcuts”. “A film remains a film, it is a fiction“, he had also argued in October, on France Inter, adding: “When one is a candidate for the presidency of the Republic, one does not take a film as an example. This is not serious.”
With just over two million admissions, North ferry is the second biggest success of French cinema last year, ahead of The Tuches 4 (1.9 million admissions) but behind Kaamelott – First part (2.65 million entries). The film, a thriller, tells the daily life of three crooked police officers from the anti-crime brigade stationed in the northern districts of Marseille. He has amassed seven nominations for the César 2022, the evening of which is expected for February 25.
