franceinfo: Societe Generale and Crédit du Nord are preparing the merger of their commercial network and economies. Will BRED follow the same path?

Olivier Klein: Our point of view is not that. Our way of seeing things is to say that we need relational proximity, physical proximity too. At BRED, we are maintaining, we are not in the process of eliminating agencies. And above all, we have not reduced the number of advisers because we believe strongly in the need for bank advisers, whether for businesses, traders, craftsmen and individuals.

Having the status of a cooperative bank, without a shareholder on the stock market, is it an advantage in this period of crisis?

I believe so because, if at certain times it is useful to have the stock market to raise money, at other times as in the current context, having access to the stock market is sometimes more complicated because it will pressure by calling for lower costs.

How to retain the customer in a competitive and digitized sector?

We go to 100% agencies by appointment. Because everything that is transactional – withdrawing money is automated – we do this from our phone. Our agents are now devoted entirely to consulting.
