Another 100,000 vials of Remdesivir to treat Covid-19 returned to Vietnam

A shipment of 100,000 bottles of Remdesivir manufactured by Mylan pharmaceutical company has returned to Vietnam, serving the treatment of Covid-19.

In the first two weeks of September, the above drugs were delivered to support localities heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Long An, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria – Vung Ships, Phu Yen, Lam Dong, Nghe An… It is expected that 100,000 bottles of Remdesivir will be shipped to Vietnam in the next few days.

It is estimated that these 200,000 vials of Remdesivir will help localities treat 20,000-30,000 Covid-19 patients. This is a batch of drugs imported under the sponsorship order of DB Group – the founding shareholder of Ecopark Group.

Most of the 100,000 bottles of special treatment for Covid-19 arrived at Tan Son Nhat airport on August 29.

Remdesivir is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Mylan. Remdesivir is an antiviral drug that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat COVID-19 patients since October 2020. Studies show that Remdesivir has the ability to shorten recovery time and reduce mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients through effective inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 virus replication.

The drug has been included in the treatment regimen of Covid-19 by 50 countries such as the US, EU, Australia, Japan, Singapore, and India.

In Vietnam, according to the temporary guidance of the Ministry of Health, the drug Remdesivir is indicated for the treatment of hospitalized Covid-19 patients with respiratory failure requiring oxygen, HFNC or non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Time to use the drug in the first 10 days from the onset of the disease and prioritize the use of high-risk groups, underlying diseases, over 65 years old.

Follow CNBCIn the US, the drug Remdesivir is sold for $ 520 / vial, or $ 3,120 / course of treatment, to hospitals treating patients with private insurance. In addition, the price is at 390 USD/vial, or 2,340 USD/course of treatment for patients covered by government-funded insurance.
