The deal between Schulz’s middle-left Social Democrats, the Greens on environmental issues and the pro-business Free Democrats has received strong support in recent days from members of the three parties. The deal cleared the way for Schulz to be elected to parliament on Wednesday, as all three parties had a majority. Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats won the election held on 26 September by a small margin. Since then, he has been in talks with the Green Party and the Free Democrats for a coalition government.
