Afghanistan News: China said on Wednesday that it would decide to grant diplomatic recognition to the Taliban in Afghanistan only after a government is formed and expects that government to be “open, inclusive and widely represented”. When asked when China would give diplomatic recognition to the Taliban, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said, “China’s position on the issue of Afghanistan is consistent and clear.”
Zhao Lijian said, “If we have to recognize a government, the first thing we have to do is wait until the government is formed.” will have an open, inclusive and widely represented governance. Only then will we come to the question of diplomatic recognition.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also reiterated China’s stand that in addition to forming an “open and inclusive” government in consultation with other factions, the Taliban should be protected against any terrorist forces, especially the Uighur terrorist group from Xinjiang province – East Turkistan Islamic We should keep our promise of not allowing movement (ETIM).
About Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid’s press conference in Kabul, in which he announced amnesty to those working for the Afghan government and respecting women’s rights “within the framework of Islamic law”, Zhao said That the restoration of peace is the most urgent task for this fundamentalist group. He said, “We have taken note of the statement of the Afghan Taliban. We hope that it will work through dialogue and consultation with other factions of the country and establish an inclusive and open political framework and adopt a liberal and prudent domestic and foreign policy and ensure that the staff and institutions of other countries in Afghanistan Will be safe.
At the same time, he said, “At the same time, we expect that the Afghan Taliban will firmly fight terrorist forces, including ETIM, and allow any force to use Afghan soil to engage in terrorist acts harmful to China.” Will seriously implement its commitment of not giving up.
The ETIM, which is said to be an ally of al-Qaeda, is a terrorist group in China’s unstable Xinjiang province. It is fighting for the independence of the province, where more than 10 million Uyghur Muslims live. The United Nations Security Council’s Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee listed ETIM as a terrorist organization in 2002.
The former US Trump administration removed the group from its list of US terrorist organizations in 2020 amid allegations of human rights violations by China against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang. The US has called China’s security action in Xinjiang a genocide against Uighur Muslims.
China is also urging the Taliban to ensure that ETIM does not use Afghan soil to target Xinjiang as a precondition for recognition of the Taliban government in Kabul. A Taliban delegation led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the head of the Taliban’s political commission, visited China last month for talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. It promised not to allow ETIM to operate from Afghanistan.
According to a recent UN report, hundreds of ETIM-linked terrorists are gathering in Afghanistan amid the Taliban’s military advances. Regarding the Taliban’s promise to respect women’s rights, Zhao said the situation in Afghanistan has changed significantly. “We respect the wishes and preferences of the Afghan people,” he said. At the moment, the most urgent task is to restore peace and stability and order as soon as possible and ensure that there are no casualties because if this happens, people will become refugees on a large scale.
“The security and interests of Afghan and foreign nationals, diplomatic missions in Afghanistan must be respected and guaranteed,” Zhao said, adding that China hopes “the Afghan Taliban work in solidarity with other factions and ethnic groups.” and establish a political framework that is open, inclusive, taking into account the national circumstances.
Regarding China’s involvement in the reconstruction of war-torn Afghanistan, he said, “As a friend and close neighbor and friend of Afghanistan, China has always maintained a friendly policy towards the Afghan people which will never change.” “We will continue to support peaceful reconstruction in Afghanistan and to the best of our ability to help Afghanistan in its economic and social development.”
