5G network is like a data highway, opening up many technological innovations, contributing to digital transformation for Vietnam.
All 3 major carriers in Vietnam, including Viettel, VinaPhone, and MobiFone, have deployed 5G networks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. With speeds 10 times higher than current 4G, 5G is expected to solve more difficult problems about data networks, providing smoother speed experiences.
Speaking to ICTnews about the role of 5G in digital transformation, Mr. ST Liew – Vice President of Qualcomm Technologies, President of Qualcomm in Taiwan and Southeast Asia – said that 5G in Vietnam will be like a highway about data, opening up many opportunities for numerical transformation.

Mr. ST Liew asserted that what 4G can do, 5G network will certainly do. 5G networks will be faster, more detailed, and deliver a much smoother speed experience than many expected.
In recent 5G network speed tests of 3 carriers in Vietnam, the download speed is about 700Mb / s to more than 1Tb / s, the upload speed is about 60-90Mb / s. This is about 10 times higher than the current 4G network.
“The Vietnamese government has shown a clear determination in technology development, especially the Make in Vietnam campaign, to turn Vietnam into a hub for innovation. I believe the 5G network will accompany your development ”, Mr. ST Liew said in an interview with a global reporter.
In a competition being held by Qualcomm for the Vietnamese technology world, 10 teams were selected to the next round from more than 100 teams. Mr. ST Liew said that in the proposed solutions, many technologies based on 5G, AI, prove that developers focus on new technologies and high-speed mobile networks are about to become popular in Vietnam.
Qualcomm plays a large part in supporting carriers in Vietnam and around the world to deploy 5G. During the first two days of December, the company hosted the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020 (Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Conference) aimed at introducing new technology on the Snapdragon chipset platform and 5G issues. Due to Covid-19, seminars and interviews are held online.
Currently, more than 100 5G networks have been deployed in many countries around the world and more than 300 smartphones, laptops, … integrated 5G have been on the market.
Vietnam is among the first group of countries to test and deploy 5G globally. In Southeast Asia, the Philippines has already deployed 5G in many areas in the capital Manila. Meanwhile, Singapore and Thailand will soon upgrade to this high-speed network.
When talking about 5G in Vietnam, experts say that not everyone will upgrade to this network overnight, but starting from factories and enterprises. 5G is also oriented to potential areas in the future such as artificial intelligence, smart factories, smart transportation, and enhanced virtual reality / augmented reality (VR / AR) …
For 5G, businesses, manufacturers, industrial parks or transport locations can all build their own 5G networks through the requisition of a part of public 5G infrastructure and personalization accordingly. with the needs of each area.
The high-speed connection of 5G also gives wings to AI technology to fly higher and farther because it will ensure easy and stable data transmission, while ensuring security and safety for users. .
In smart factories, 5G networks are used to connect wirelessly without cables while bandwidth is enhanced. Machines and equipment equipped with sensors will be operated and communicated over 5G networks with low latency and enhanced stability. Edge Cloud Application Processor (Edge computing – the optimization method for cloud computing systems) will help people monitor all activities in the smart factory.
For smart traffic application, we can imagine that on future roads in the future, there will be an extremely large number of sensors including surveillance cameras, sensors in cars, inter-devices. lost between traffic.
From a management perspective, the interaction between traffic objects will help the state formulate and make better traffic policies.
