The Vietnam Science and Technology Journalists Club has just announced the results of a poll of 10 outstanding science and technology events in 2021.
This is the 16th year that the event to vote for 10 outstanding science and technology events has been organized by the Vietnam Science and Technology Journalists Club.
This year, these events belong to many different fields such as mechanism and policy, social sciences, natural sciences, applied research, honoring scientists, and international integration.
1. The XIII Party Congress identified “science – technology, innovation” as one of the strategic breakthroughs.
The Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress of the Party has set out three groups of strategic breakthrough solutions to continue developing the country quickly and sustainably.
This is the first time, the Document of the Party Congress identifies “science – technology, innovation” as one of the strategic breakthroughs to build and develop the country. Thereby affirming that “science – technology, innovation” is not only a driving force but also a pillar for Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

2. The 6th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies
The 6th International Conference on Vietnam Studies with the theme “Vietnam actively integrates and develops sustainably” co-organized by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and Vietnam National University, Hanoi. in 2 days October 28 and 29, 2021.
The seminar attracted the participation of 600 domestic and international researchers, discussing 10 key areas with a total of 730 presentations in the fields of: History, economy, politics, international relations culture, society, environment, etc.
3. Vietnamese scientific work wins Asia Innovation Award
The project “Development and application of a biosensor system for rapid determination of BOD and toxicity in water” has won the Special Award (Best Innovation Award) of the Asia Innovation Award in 2021. .
This is a work by a research group of Dr. Pham Thi Thuy Phuong (under the Institute of Chemical Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology).

With low investment and operating costs, this biosensor system is expected to be applied in automatic and continuous environmental monitoring systems. 4. Viettel’s smart city model is recognized as the most effective and innovative in the world
On October 26, 2021, the Organizing Committee of the World Communication Awards 2021 announced that the smart city model developed by the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) is effective. and the most creative in the world.
Viettel is the only Vietnamese enterprise in the list of nominations and winners at this award, surpassing big names such as China Telecom Global, KT Corporation, ZARIOT secured SIMs in the same category.

5. Anti-erosion embankment works in Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province
The embankment work to prevent coastal erosion at the tourist area of Lang Fish, Phuoc Thuan commune, Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province has just been accepted, handed over and put into use in phase 3 with a total length of about approx. 1.3km.
The current situation of the coast of Xuyen Moc district has long been assessed as having very serious local erosion. The construction of embankment and landslide in this area is a new breakthrough in technology for construction in weak geological conditions, flowing sand, flooding (continuous high and low tide).
The new embankment not only solves the problem of preventing erosion, overcoming waves and currents, but also solving the problem of sedimentation.
6. Coat to cool down and fight heat for medical staff to prevent and control Covid-19
In June 2021, a cooling shirt for medical staff was researched and put into trial production by a group of engineers from the Institute of Technology Applications (Ministry of Science and Technology).
The vest is designed in the form of a vest, worn over a medical uniform or inside a medical protective jacket (PPE) to support cooling for medical staff during work, patient sampling or treatment. treat patients.

This shirt is made of non-woven fabric, coated with Polyphenyl Ether (waterproof and “breathable”). When the shirt is cool, you can clean and disinfect the surface of the shirt with alcohol, then leave it in the freezer for about four hours for the next use. The shirt has a total weight of 1.7 kg, has the ability to retain heat for 3 hours.
7. Vietnam “portable isolation hat” honored by WIPO
On November 29, 2021, the group of three young Vietnamese people, Do Trong Minh Duc, Tran Nguyen Khanh An, and Nguyen Hoang Phuc, the inventors of the Vihelm “mobile isolation hat” were patented by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). ) awarded the title of Youth Ambassador of Intellectual Property.
This is the first time that WIPO has awarded this title in the Asia-Pacific region and also the second time that this title has been awarded during the 50 years of WIPO’s history.
Vihelm is designed on the principle of operation of a mask called PAPR, which filters the air with globally recognized standards and is 100 times safer than an N99 mask.

9. Luc Ngan lychee and Binh Thuan dragon fruit were granted a Geographical Indication Protection Certificate by Japan
On March 16, 2021, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries granted a Geographical Indication Protection Certificate for Luc Ngan lychee of Bac Giang province. This is the first agricultural product of Vietnam to be granted a Geographical Indication Certificate in Japan.
After Luc Ngan lychee, on October 7, 2021, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries continued to grant a Geographical Indication Protection Certificate for Binh Thuan dragon fruit.
